A weekend of sci-fi madness
Spent the weekend at Supanova. I'm not into Amine at all and spent most of the time in the sci-fi area sitting in on various talks. We saw:
Friday - Richard Taylor talking about Weta & LotR and also saw John Rhys-Davies.
Saturday - Richard Hatch (Battlestar), Gates McFadden (ST TNG), Richard Taylor (talking about KK), Robin Curtis (ST) and half of Matthew Lewis's talk (Harry Potter).
Sunday - Nicole de Boer (ST DS9 & Dead Zone), and the highlight for me Dominic Keating (ST Ent).
The main reason I went was to see Dominic who was absolutely hilarious with his tales and his alternate theme song. Unfortunately none of my photos turned out well - it's too hard to take pics with all the action happening! So I paid for a photo and autograph and it's now hanging on the wall.
For a $33 entrance fee covering the entire weekend this was a great event - unlike the one we went to in 2002 which wasn't that organised. The only thing I think they should consider in future is having the talks in proper theatres/rooms. It was so distracting having them in such an open space with people continuously walking through the area to go to the bathrooms or to the food area - not to mention all the background noise from the other talks nearby and the pa system.
Jeff and I have decided to keep an eye out for other Supanova events in other cities. If the guest list is good enough and the pricing similar, then it's a good excuse to take a few days off and take a mini holiday!

I must be more observant!
I know it's been a while but this is one of those occassions where I have to get this off my chest.
Some idiot (to put it nicely) tried to steal my car last night. From a secure car park.
I was so freaked out this morning that my poor husband had to leave work. By the time he arrived home I had calmed down and now I'm so pissed off.
About 6 years ago while at a cabaret show in the city some idiot busted the passenger door lock trying to break in and around 2 years ago someone else tried to do the same to the drivers door at the local shopping centre. Because both those incidents were in public places I wasn't that upset and didn't report them. That kind of thing happens every day.
But today I have learnt a lesson. I must be more observant and aware of things around me from now on.
Like always, I was running late for work, went down to the SECURE car park and the first thing I notice is the drivers door and passenger door was not locked. Me being me, just thought that maybe Jeff was retrieving something from the car before he left this morning and forgot to lock it. Drive out the drive, and that's when I noticed that broken plastic half under the seat out of view. Drove back into the carpark called Jeff and then called the police.
The problem now is that I can't get into the car since I locked the doors not realising that the locks are now broken! They obviously tried to hot wire the car since the plastic bits on the floor was the cover to the steering column. The only thing that I noticed that was missing was my security pass for work, but luckily that has nothing on it to identify me or the company. I rang work and asked them to cancel the card.
Police sent some people around to check it out and now I'm waiting for the fingerprint people to call and let me know when they can come around and dust for prints. I can see some humour in this - both Jeff and I are now going to have our prints on file and I thought it was funny that the constable called back to give me the report reference number and to ask for my license number to run a background check on me!
So now all I can do is wait. Once the car has been checked for prints I'll be able to take it over and get the locks replaced. Until then, I guess I'll just sit here and annoy my husband :-)

Preparing to be bombarded with emails...
So I finally made the decision to give up almost all my fanlistings. Visit Twelve Noon if you want to see what's up for adoption and for guidelines.
Yeah so earlier this week I realised that I just couldn't be bothered anymore and I'm not getting anything out of them other than wasting a couple of hours every so often updating. So I just posted an adoption notice on TFL board about 30mins ago and surprisingly the first application I received was for Colin Firth not Viggo Mortensen. LOL This is going to be funny reading initial reactions on the board.
Well month end tomorrow, I mean today at work so I should get some sleep.
Oh before I forget, I finally got my act together and put up the new layout at Twelve Noon. Progress at last!

Wow, it's been a while....
With everything that's been happening since the end of January I just haven't been up to posting here. Sad I know.
I've had to take 7 1/2 days off work in the past month - a record for me. 2 at the start of Feb as I was sick, 2 1/2 the following week because Jeff's back decided to go on him, another day a week later to take him to the doctor again and 2 last week when I came down with a very bad head cold. I'm still suffering it's effects. As long as it doesn't migrate to my chest.
Right now I'm also suffering layout block. I come up with some great ideas when I'm away from the computer but I just can't get them to work when it comes to sitting in front of the computer. Grrrrrr.
In other news we had an inspection with the owners and agent last weekend. We've been living here for almost 3 years and have never had an inspection so we were a bit nervous, particularly since the owners were going to be there too. We were worried they wanted to sell. Turns out they just wanted to see whether there was anything they could do for us. I jokingly said to Jeff weeks ago when we were first informed about the inspection, 'Can I ask for a new kitchen?'. Well I didn't have to ask! We were told that they are planning to have the kitchen renovated later this year. Yay!

Everything looks so... big.
For a few months now, Jeff has been thinking of buying a new computer for himself and giving me his current one. Fine with me as his current one is alot faster than mine (which is actually his previous one). He also decided that he was going to buy a new LCD monitor as well so he has more space on his desk.
I bought myself a 15" LCD monitor about 18months ago and Jeff decided that he'll take that and buy me a new 17" one. How could I argue with that?
So this morning when I got up he suggested that we go and have a look at this computer store to just have a look at their monitors as they recently had one advertised for $435. So off we went and they had sold out of said monitor. However they had another one for $399 which is a real bargain, considering the same monitor was in Dick Smiths Powerhouse for $499. Also, at the so called discount computer store at our local shopping centre the cheapest LCD monitor was a 15" at $399 for cash.
So guess who is now looking at a nice new black Acer 17" LCD monitor? Though I have been complaining about it all night LOL. Nothing wrong with it at all, it's just that I'm running it at 1024x768 like on the old one but everything looks so.... big. LOL Takes some getting used to... I could change the resolution but I like to design for 1024x768 so I'll live with it.
So much for just going to the shops to look. Our intentions were to check out a computer desk which my mum saw in Homeart. Parked the car, walked in through the back entrance of Target and they have all there desks out near the door on sale. So of course we ended up buying one for Jeff and have spent most of the afternoon and evening assembling it, disconnecting his computer and gadgets, untangling cables and reconnecting everything, along with my old monitor on the new desk. He's happy, I'm happy. :)
